THE FAERIE WAY
HUGH MYNNE
LLEWELLYN PUBLICATIONS. ST. PAUL, MN 1996 152P
SOFTCOVER, $12.95, ISBN: 1-56718-483-9

First off, a disclaimer is necessary. I only managed to get read up to page 19 in this book. I had to read the first chapter twice because I started dozing off the first time. I was barely able to get through chapter two. However, two pages into the third chapter I put the book down in disgust. I really cannot find anything nice to say about this book, so my review shall be short. Please remember that I am merely stating my opinion. Take it for what it's worth. The FAERIE WAY reads like a text book. It bored me just like a text book. In the first chapter, the author spent too much time comparing the Scottish/Irish words "sith" and "sidhe" to their latin and tibetan counterparts. I do not remember seeing a notice anywhere in the introduction stating a linguistics lecture was going to occur somewhere in the body of the text. Chapter two made me feel like the author was jumping on the "aliens-are-responsible-for-everything" bandwagon, by claiming ufo encounters and faerie encounters are one and the same. Maybe I should call upon the wisdom of fox mulder to help me understand that theory. The only people to whom I would recommend this book would be chronic sufferers of insomnia. On a scale of 1 to 5, I give this book a -2.

SOUL HEALING
DR. BRUCE GOLDBERG
LLEWELLYN PUBLICATIONS. ST. PAUL, MN 1996. 285P.
SOFTCOVER, $14.95 ISBN: 1-56718-317-4

Impressive title. Impressive body of research. Impressive author. Unimpressive book as far as layout. This book is very well researched. Just check those chapters with lists of sources at the end of them. The sources range from as early as 1930 to as current as 1995. This shows the author really searched for his information. However, this bothered me. The book felt like nothing more than a collection of research articles, the likes of which can be found in the "new engalnd journal of medicine". This book would have been more aptly titled how to heal a plethora of maladies through hypnosis and progression/regression therapies: Articles through the 20th century. I believe that Dr. Goldberg was trying to show soul healing as a universal agent for improving our well-being. To that end, he succeeded. However, the choppy layout tended to distract me from the book's purpose. If you enjoy reading medical journals, then buy this book. If you find medical journals to be dry and lackluster then save your money.

THE LOST SECRETS OF PRAYER
GUY FINLEY
LLEWELLYN PUBLICATIONS. ST. PAUL, MN 1998. 210P.
SOFT COVER, $9.95, ISBN: 1-56718-276-3

I liked what Mr. Finley had to say about prayer. He reminds the reader that even the smallest expectation is a form of prayer. Wishes can also be a type of prayer. So, in essence, we live in a very prayerful world. We just don't realize it. Fear not! Through the use of this book, Mr. Finley will tell you how to realize your prayer potential. He'll also point out how wrong your approach to prayer has been. However, you can change all that if you can only follow his train(s) of thought. I have to describe his writing style as verbose and repetitive. These are the nicest adjectives I can find. Apparently, Mr. Finley feels that his audience is not up to his level of thinking. He often addresses them with statements such as "don't miss the point here, as millions of (newly hatched) skeptics do" (p.11) and "in case the lesson isn't as obvious as it's intended to be..." (p. 23). I found this approach offensive. Assuming that one's audience is incapable of understanding one's ideas is a poor way to sell books. If the reader can maintain a passive attitude toward Mr. Finley's "I'm-the-one-with-the-answers-because-I-wrote-a-book" tone of voice, then the book will be profitable for the enhancement of a relationship with divinity. If, however, the reader cannot react to being talked down to without angry outbursts, the book will offer nothing that couldn't be found in a 12-step program. They serve refreshments, too.

ASTRAL PROJECTION AND PSYCHIC EMPOWERMENT
JOE H. SLATE, PHD
LLEWELLYN PUBLICATIONS. ST. PAUL, MN 1998, 193P.
SOFT COVER, $12.95, ISBN: 1-56718-636-X

For anyone who wants a more scientific/technical approach to the astral realm and psychic abilities, this book is ideal. On the other hand, if psychobabble and technical jargon leave you yawning and reaching for a pillow, this book will help with insomnia. Dr. Slate is well-educated in this area of psychic phenomena. This is evident by the language he uses. Unfortunately, like a large number of well-educated individuals with letters as titles behind their names, he does not have the means to communicate with his audience without talking over their heads. This book reminded me of a psychology text book. While I may find a certain delight in reading those types of books, there are others who would not. For this reason, and this alone, I MUST Decline recommending this book to the general public. It is an informative book for advanced learners. It is an incomprehensible pot of jargon for beginners.
